The United States Amendments

 

1st Amendment: Freedom of Religion, Speech, Press, Assembly, and Petition.

 

2nd Amendment: Right to bear arms.

 

3rd Amendment: No quartering of soldiers at people’s homes without owner’s consent.

 

4th Amendment: Prohibits searching other people’s homes without a warrant. 

 

5th Amendment: Criminal Proceedings; Due Process; Eminent Domain; Double Jeopardy; Protection from Self incrimination

 

6th Amendment: Protects the right to a fair and speedy public trial by jury.

 

7th Amendment: The 6th Amendment, but on certain civil cases. 

 

8th Amendment: Prohibits excessive fines and bails, and unusual and cruel punishments. 

 

9th Amendment: Protects rights not said in the Constitution.

 

10th Amendment: Reinforces federalism gov. 

 

11th Amendment: Makes states immune from suits from out-of-state citizens and foreigners not living within the state borders.

 

12th Amendment: Revises presidential election procedures. 

 

13th Amendment: Freedom of slaves in South after Civil War.

 

14th Amendment: Deals with post-Civil War issues, and redefining citizenship in America. 

 

15th Amendment: Right to vote for all men of different race and colour.

 

16th Amendment: Permits Congress to levy tax without state’s approval. 

 

17th Amendment: Election of U.S Senatorial elections based on popular vote. 

 

18th Amendment: Prohibition of alcohol. 

 

19th Amendment: Women are allowed to vote. 

 

20th Amendment: Changes the dates on terms of presidency.

 

21st Amendment: Repeals the 18th Amendment. 

 

22nd Amendment: Presidents cannot go beyond 2 terms. 

 

23rd Amendment: Grants the number of electors in the Electoral College.

 

24th Amendment: Prohibits voting rights based on poll tax. 

 

25th Amendment: Addresses that succession in both Presidency and Vice Presidency has to follow procedures. 

 

26th Amendment: All U.S citizen of 18+ years of age are allowed to vote.

 

27th Amendment: Prohibits Congress's power to fix the salaries of its members
